Complete New Words in CSW24
Authors: Tony Kalayzich (original research) / David Sutton (further research and presentation)
Version 1.0
Version History:
1.0 4/9/2024 All words for lengths 2-15 verified against an electronic list of the new words supplied
by Chris Lipe.
It is unlikely that this document will be entirely free of imperfections, though the basic
word content should be correct. I will be happy to receive comments/errata at

Note:
This document is offered as a supplement to Chris Lipe’s official CSW24 Initiation Kit. The Initiation Kit focuses,
quite rightly, on words of length 2-8, and has special sections on JQXZ and high probability bonus stems. Our
document simply lists all new words, with definitions, but it does also includes notes on hooks, anagrams and
variants.
So, the following words are new to CSW24, deriving, at least in principle, from either the latest (14th) edition
of Collins dictionary or the latest NWL list (NWL23). The 2-9 words are initially grouped by word length, with a
final consolidated list in alphabetical order. This is followed appendices giving 1) a summary list of new words
of 10 letters or more that are inflections of words of <= 9 letters, and so need no definitions; 2) definitions for
new words of 10 letters or more that are NOT inflections of words of <= 9 letters; 3) a summary list of these
words that are not inflections.
If a word in the left-hand column is bracketed it means that the word already exists in CSW19 but has acquired
new inflections e.g. a noun is now a verb.
Inflected forms given for the root word are NOT repeated in the definition tables for the longer word lengths
but ARE included in the summary lists at the end.
The third column contains C if the word is from Collins, N if from NWL. Where it is found in both, C is given
precedence. It appears that the Collins online dictionary has occasionally been used to supply variant spellings,
but in the main the words will be found in the printed dictionary, 14th edition.
The fourth column lists anagrams of existing CSW19 words, if any.
The fifth column shows any new front and back hooks that the new word creates for existing CSW19 words,
with the new hook letter bracketed, followed by front or back hooks that existing CSW19 words create for the
new word, with the hook letter bracketed.
The sixth column lists existing CSW19 words, if any, of which the new word is a variant spelling.
