Presenting your 2022 leadership candidates

Two weeks ago, we announced that the CoCo was soliciting candidates for its senior leadership positions. Any CoCo member who resides in North America was eligible to run for election.

A wide range of candidates came forward. Below are the nominees for the CoCo’s Executive Director position and the Board of Directors in 2022.

Candidates for Board of Directors

Becky Dyer

“My platform includes the following goals, if elected:
1. I intend to push for a change to the bylaws so that the entire board and Executive Director roles cannot be subject to replacement simultaneously, as is currently the case.
2. As a retired M.D. with 25 years of experience working in various roles in the healthcare field, I will continue to seek to play an active role in guidance involving policies affecting health and safety at tournaments.
3. I will continue to encourage the organization to place the highest possible priority on literacy, education, global inclusiveness, and diversity.”

Evans Clinchy

“I have an ambitious vision for the CoCo, and it includes more tournaments, in more locations, run by more directors, welcoming more players into the fold. It would be an honor to be elected to the board for another term so I can keep working to make this vision a reality.”

Mike Johnson

“There is an exciting new energy in the Scrabble community. For the first time in years, there is opportunities for growth and the Collins community has the opportunity to take the lead on this. This work will take innovation, collaboration, and a welcoming atmosphere. I’m passionate about growing the CSW community in North America, and see this growth as a way to reunify our fractured community with the rest of the world. This is why I am running for a position on the Board of Directors for CoCo.”

Peter Armstrong

“I am running for reelection to the board for a 1-year term. As treasurer, I helped with the application process to transition CoCo into a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. I helped add levels of security to protect our accounts. I created and maintained databases for general accounting and tournaments, and helped transition to our new system, in which individual tournaments run through CoCo.”

Steve Pellinen

“I would like to serve another term on the CoCo Board, to continue to give what I can in helping the organization to grow and establish itself as the go to place for Collins play in North America. With more than 40 years of experience at many different levels and serving all of the Scrabble orgs in various capacities, I bring a unique perspective to the challenges and issues facing leadership teams. The CoCo has already shown itself to be creative and fun, two characteristics I value highly, and I think I am a good fit with that.”

Candidate for Executive Director

Only one person signed up to run for Executive Director (me). As stated in my platform, “As the CoCo’s inaugural Executive Director, I spearheaded incorporation of the CoCo as a nonprofit, secured 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt status, and introduced the CoCo’s Premium Membership program. I’m committed to doing what it takes to grow the CoCo.”
