An update on the CoCo virtual club

The CoCo club on Woogles.io has been a big hit, and we want to express our heartfelt thanks to all of our participants. The high level of play, the good sportsmanship, the enthusiasm - it's all been great fun, and it continues! Tuesdays, the scoring never stops.

Meeting virtually on Woogles has been a great way to gather during pandemic times, and we love how popular the club has remained.

For the three months comprising the spring 2021 quarter, we had 50 different players participate in the club and a total of 963 games were played. We used win differential (wins minus losses) to determine the top club finishers for the quarter. As a result, the following players took home top honors:

  • 1st place: Austin Shin, 75-25

  • 2nd place: Sammy Okosagah, 57-28

  • 3rd place: Mohammad Sulaiman, 73.5-52.5

We also awarded a virtual "CoCo Cup" to the players with the most total games played. Top finishers in this category were David Whitley (140), Mohammad Sulaiman (126), Colin Northmore (126), and Devon Dublin (114).

While Austin proved to be unbeatable by a huge margin, everything is reset now, and everyone has a chance to win those beautiful (virtual) prizes next time! The summer quarter runs from July through September.

We do want to announce, though, that we're making a major change to our club schedule moving forward. Starting in July:

  • Due to the club directors' busy summer schedules, we are reducing the number of rounds from 10 to 5. Round 1 will now start at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time, 5:30 Pacific.

  • This means the club will start 90 minutes later than it has previously, and run for half as long, but the fun will be no less than before! Please continue to join us for as many rounds as you like, depending on your schedule.

  • As always, the full list of details on CoCo club play can be found here.

We should also note that as COVID-19 vaccination continues in North America, and infection rates continue to stay relatively under control, the CoCo has begun pivoting toward in-person play. We announced six new tournaments last week, and we're working now to plan additional events.

Starting with the LOCO tournament over Labor Day weekend, the in-person calendar is shaping up to be a lot of fun. If you're vaccinated and ready to gather together with small groups of other vaccinated players, then we hope to see you over the board soon!
