Word Cup 2025 is open for registration today!

When we saw you all this summer in Albuquerque at Word Cup 2024, we made you a promise - that our next championship event would be held the following summer in St. Louis, Missouri. And today, we're here to make good on that promise. We're proud to announce that Word Cup 2025 is live and open for registration.

Let's dive into the details...

  • Date: August 2-6, 2025

  • Location: St. Louis Union Station Hotel, 1820 Market St., St. Louis, MO 63103

  • Director: Evans Clinchy

  • Games: 31

  • Parameters: WESPA rules, CSW24 lexicon, 5 points per word challenged

  • Divisions: This tournament will feature two divisions. Division 1 is open to all players, with unlimited play-ups allowed. Division 2 is open only to players rated below 1600.

  • Prizes: Generous place and performance prizes will be awarded in both Collins divisions. There will be an additional $40,000 added to the prize pool courtesy of the Carter Chapman Shreve Family Foundation, split proportionally across the CSW and WOW divisions.

There shouldn't be any major surprises here - for the most part, this will be the same Word Cup you know and love. There are perhaps two medium-sized changes you might want to be aware of, though.

For one, we've simplified the division breakdown this year - there's no more peak ratings and no more averaging of this, that, or the other. Quite simply, if your CoCo rating is under 1600, you can play Division 2.

The second tweak is we're modifying our prize guarantee. Rather than promise a set amount for first place specifically, we're going with a more egalitarian system that ensures generous payouts up and down the prize table. There will be an additional $40,000 in the Word Cup prize pool thanks to the Carter Chapman Shreve Family Foundation, and it will be paid out by director discretion. You can expect hefty payouts for everyone not just atop the standings, but in second, third, fourth, and so on. And not just in Division 1, either.

Other than that: You know the drill! This is going to be the biggest, baddest Scrabble championship in North America in 2025, and you will absolutely not want to miss it.

To get in on the action, you know what to do - head on over to our tournament page and register today.
