Previewing the CoCo tournament calendar for late 2024 and early 2025

We're a mere five-twelfths of the way through the calendar year 2024, but already a lot has happened in CoColand. We've put on a host of our old favorite tournaments, from New Orleans to Austin; we've created some new instant classics, like our events in D.C. and Seattle over Memorial Day. And there's been a bunch more in between. In total, we've put on 11 tournaments so far - and we're just now getting started.

There's a lot more exciting Scrabble action that still lies ahead. We've got a ton of tournaments already on the calendar right now, and there are still more popping up on the regular. These are good times to be a CSW Scrabbler in North America.

Let's take a look at what's on tap for the rest of 2024... and beyond.

A lot more Portland Pub Scrabble

The Portland, Oregon CoCo crew set out to do something ambitious in 2024 - 11 weekend Scrabble gatherings at 11 different breweries and pubs all over the city. And so far, they are delivering. We've got five Portland Pub Scrabble events already in the books, a sixth one coming up next week, and five more coming throughout the rest of the calendar year.

Congrats to all of our winners so far - Conrad Bassett-Bouchard, Dave Wiegand (twice), Alec Sjöholm, and Kolton Koehler. And good luck to everyone at the rest of this year's Portland Pub events - starting on June 15 at Culmination Brewing, followed by later tournaments on July 20, Aug. 24, Oct. 5, Nov. 2, and Dec. 7. Bottoms up!

Word Cup is coming soon!

For the first time, we can now officially say this - Word Cup is happening next month! It feels so real now, doesn't it?

Our big championship event for 2024 gets underway in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, July 27. That's now just 8 short weeks away. This is going to be the event of the year - and our whole team couldn't be more excited.

It seems like you all are pretty excited, too. At this writing, we've already got 44 players signed up to play CSW in Albuquerque, and I've got a pretty good hunch that number is going to keep climbing. We're going to have a big, vibrant, star-studded field playing for the big title come late July.

An epic summer doubleheader out West

Of course, Word Cup isn't just the biggest tournament of the year - it's also the longest, featuring 31 games over the course of 5 days. But if you're a total sicko, and you don't think 31 games is enough, we do have a solution for you.

How about another 20?

For those really jonesing for that Scrabble fix, one option is to head directly from Albuquerque to Glen Haven, CO after the tournament. It's about an 8-hour drive, or a short flight. Once there, you can compete in our other big tournament of the summer - the Bingman Stakes, to be held the very next weekend.

This is going to be an incredibly fun weekend, including shared lodging in the mountains, copious food and drink, a hot tub, and a competitive Scrabble tournament with a big cash prize.

Come out West for Word Cup; stay out West for the Stakes. You can have it all.

A big Labor Day weekend

Over Memorial Day weekend, we ran two tournaments, one on the East Coast and one out West. For Labor Day, you can expect more of the same. On one side of the country, we've got PDXwords, in the Portland, OR area; on the other, we've got a beach weekend on the coast of Delaware.

PDXwords is going to be a major event, with major prize money, including a $3,000 donation to sweeten the pot. The Delaware event - our first ever in the state - will be a fun gathering for East Coasters to enjoy, with beautiful oceanside views and a competitive Scrabble field to boot.

Take your pick! Both events are sure to be loads of fun.

Two old favorites returning in 2025

We're not even halfway through 2024, true. But it's never too early to start thinking about '25. In fact, we've already got two tournaments next year open for registration! And they're two of your all-time favorites, back for another year.

In January, you can head to New Orleans yet again and compete in the 13th (!!!) annual Crescent City Cup. Hard to believe we're already at a baker's dozen! Then a month later, make your plans to travel northwest, where the Hood River Open is back for the 7th time.

These are two of the most highly anticipated Scrabble tournaments of the year, every year. And in 2025, they'll be back as always. Sign up today to play one - or both.

And while you're at it, sign up for a bunch more of the above tournaments, too. There's all sorts of fun Scrabble action that lies ahead over the next 8-plus months, and you won't want to miss out on any of it.
