About the CoCo
WHO WE ARE
We are the Collins Coalition (CoCo), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers people to improve their cognitive word and math skills and form lifelong friendships through fun and competitive word game play. The CoCo is based in North America and was founded in 2019. Our goal is to build a stronger Scrabble® community - one that is diverse, inclusive, growth-oriented, safe, and supportive for players from all walks of life.
OUR VALUES
DEMOCRACY | TRANSPARENCY | INNOVATION
People are the heart of our coalition. We are a democratic organization with elected leaders. We are committed to being transparent and accountable. We publish our budget and explain how we use CoCo funds to advance the community.
We value your opinions and ideas and are committed to representing your interests. We dare to be innovative and adaptive as we build a more diverse, inclusive, and educational word game community. We treat our members with empathy and compassion. Whether you’re frustrated and want a greater voice, worried about the future of the game, or dealing with an interpersonal conflict such as harassment or bullying - we vow to listen, to care, and to help.
OUR PRIORITIES
CITIZENS OF THE WORLD — The world is much larger than just North America, and the word game community is as well. We strive to join the modern age by igniting a truly global Scrabble® culture in the United States and Canada, becoming a member of WESPA, and empowering players to learn alongside the rest of the world. We encourage players to enjoy the international tournament scene, and we welcome players from abroad to come learn and play with us.
INSPIRING GROWTH — Scrabble® is one of the most popular games in the world, beloved by millions. The tournament scene is comparatively mini, but mighty. We aspire to close this gap by providing the educational tools and training to inspire casual Scrabble® enthusiasts to learn and take the next step.
OUR ACTIVITIES
We provide players with a safe and supportive environment in which to increase their skills, learn new words, foster sportsmanship, and have fun, regardless of rank or previous experience.
We host competitive tournaments where players can sharpen their verbal and math skills, memorization, and strategic reasoning.
We promote English literacy, mathematical aptitude, and tactical skill development through skills-based word games.
We develop and institute ethical standards governing behavior and play.
