Previewing the 2025 CoCo tournament calendar
Hey, would you look at that? It's 2025!
Time flies when you're playing Scrabble, I guess.
It feels like just yesterday we were still midway through 2024. Yet somehow, here we are, back in January again, turning the page to begin a new year. Did you make any resolutions?
If you resolved to play more Scrabble, then, cool. We got you. Otherwise, I'm not sure if we can be much help. We're a Scrabble organization, after all.
For anyone out there looking to play more tournaments in 2025, we've got a wide range of options to choose from. Our tournament calendar for this year is still a work in progress - there's more to come in the near future, definitely - but we've already got plenty of good stuff queued up.
Let's take a look at some of the exciting Scrabble events you can all look forward to this year.
Crescent City Cup
New Orleans, LA
Jan. 18-20, 2025
This one needs no introduction, but I suppose I'll give one anyway. New Orleans is pretty much the most fun Scrabble tournament experience in North America every single year, and we expect 2025 will be no exception. The CCC is back this year for the 13th time, and this time, we're looking at a field that's bigger than ever.
With 56 players in total as of this writing - exactly 28 in each division - we're looking forward to a NOLA tournament for the record books. And it's just a few days away.
Hood River Open
Hood River, OR
Feb. 15-17, 2025
It doesn't offer the same level of glitz and glamour as New Orleans, but Hood River has become a fan favorite in its own special way. There's nothing quite like spending a long weekend cooped up in a lodge in the mountains with 20 of your closest Scrabble friends - you know?
Well, if you know, you know, anyway. This will be the seventh annual HORO, and we've got a loyal group of players who just keep coming back year after year. We are thrilled to be hosting them yet again this February.
Champions Cup
Slingerlands, NY
April 19-20, 2025
This event is one of a kind on the CoCo tournament calendar - it's the only event we have that's exclusive to just the top players. Open only to players with peak ratings over 1850, this tournament offers a chance to compete against the best of the best, every single game you play.
It's a grueling experience, but if you enjoy top-level Scrabble, it's a uniquely fun challenge. If you meet the bar to qualify for this one, I highly recommend testing your mettle against a competitive field like none other.
Bend Weekend
Bend, OR
July 11-13, 2025
This is a new event on the tournament calendar in 2025, and it's one that I'm uniquely excited for. First of all, Bend is a beautiful town that everyone should visit at least once in their lives. And second of all, Bend Weekend is going to be a weekend-long extravaganza of word gaming and fun.
Participants will get to enjoy an anagrams championship, a pub crawl, a human-versus-machine challenge, and a 1-day Scrabble tournament, all jam-packed into 48 hours. Weekends don't get much better than that.
Word Cup
St. Louis, MO
Aug. 2-6, 2025
...and then, there's the big one! This will be our third time co-hosting Word Cup, and we're excited to be a part of the marquee Scrabble event of the year.
We're still about seven months out from this year's championship, but it's never too early to start making your travel arrangements. We're going to have an absolute blast in St. Louis, and you won't want to miss it.
That's what we've got on the docket so far... but it's just the beginning! Right now, as we speak, we're working actively to pack the tournament calendar with many, many more events all across the land. In just the last week or so, we've had productive conversations with tournament organizers in Washington, Oregon, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Ohio, Maryland, and Virginia.
So stay tuned. There's plenty more to come. But hey - maybe sign up for a tournament or two now, while you wait.
